Oasis: Supersonic

Oasis: Supersonic

Review: A quite good documentary about Oasis, or at least about Oasis as long as they were big and important. Would have liked it to capture the rest too.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

Review: One of the better DC films I've seen. Unfortunately there are some bad special effects in it that made me cringe a bit. Gal Gadot is great in the lead however and carries the movie.

American Anarchist

American Anarchist

Review: I suppose most people have heard about The Anarchist Cookbook. I'm not sure that too many know anything about the man behind it, William Powell. This documentary confronts the writer with the tragic influence it has had, and we get to meet a writer in almost complete denial.

The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution

Review: After reading tons of books about The Black Panther Party when I was in my teens, this documentary by Stanley Nelson didn't really offer that much new info for me. It was however definitely worth watching.

Burning Sands

Burning Sands

Review: A Netflix original about hazing in a black fraternity. The acting is good, the scenes are raw and believable, but you never get a feel for the characters. Too bad, because in the end that leaves the film less than memorable.

T2 Trainspotting

T2 Trainspotting

Review: I can't even begin to say how much I've been looking forward to this film. I'm still in love with the original film, so needless to say I was psyched about this one. And it's good. It's just not as good as I had hoped. It relies a bit too much on the first film, and don't really seem to be able to stand on it's own two feet. Worth watching of course if you, like me, loved the first film, but all in all it's not that special.

Arrival

Review: When I first saw the trailer for this at the cinema the other week, it didn't really feel like anything I was going to hurry to watch. I'm glad that I did watch it though, because this was a really smart and intelligent sci-fi film that felt quite unique. Wasn't superimpressed by the acting, but I really dug the film.

Tracks

Tracks

Review: This is an adaptation of Robyn Davidson's memoir of the same name, chronicling the author's nine-month journey on camels across the Australian desert. It was not bad, but somehow the story felt a bit too easy. I was kind of expecting that Robyn would come across way more hurdles than we get to see in the film. This made it a bit too monotonous for me.

La La Land

Review: I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but I felt that I had to watch this one after hearing so much praise about it. And I'm not disappointed. It's beautifully made and the acting is good. The story is not the strongest perhaps, but that's seldom the case when it comes to musicals if you ask me. Worth watching either way.
