Lilyhammer

Yesterday I got around to watching the first episode of the Norwegian-American tv series Lilyhammer. I had very low expectations sitting down in front of it, but it actually was ok. I don't think I will like it though after 3-4 episodes, but up until then I will be entertained at least.

Jay & Silent Bob Get Old: Tea Baggin in the UK

Jay & Silent Bob Get Old: Tea Bagging in the UK

Review: I really do like Kevin Smith, and I'm always happy to watch something with him and Jason Mewes. This live show from London however is mostly boring though. Too much of Jason for my taste.

Newsroom

I just watched the season finale of Newsroom, and I have to encourage anyone who hasn't seen this show to do it. It's probably the most interesting show that has come out in quite a while.

Big Fan

Big Fan

Review: I really quite liked this one. I can't really say why, but I think some of it has to do with the feeling of it, but mostly because of Patton Oswalt in the lead role as Paul. It's a nice comedy drama with a twist that I can really recommend if you're looking for something a bit different and low key.

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop

Review: Conan O'Brien Can't Stop is a documentary focusing on his comedy tour The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour that followed his departure from NBC. It's an interesting documentary letting us see more of the person behind the name and see what drives him. Unfortunately it also feels very unfocused and in the end you're left with an unsatisfied feeling. Definitely worth checking out though if you like me like Conan.

Super High Me

Super High Me

Review: Most of you probably know of Morgan Spurlock's documentary Super Size Me. This is comedian Doug Benson's version of it. Here he documents 30 days of not smoking pot at all and 30 days of non-stop use to compare them. It sounds more funny than it actually is. I've never been much for weed jokes and this is just too much of it for my taste. The funniest thing about this documentary is the title, and the title itself is not that fun.

Stephen Fry in America

Stephen Fry in America

Review: What to do with a Monday in the end of August? Why not watch Stephen Fry's mini-serie Stephen Fry in America. Perhaps not a great travel show, but Stephen is always Stephen and that's good enough for me.

That's What I Am

That's What I Am

Review: That's What I Am is a charming and kind of cute coming of age film. It touches upon some well known issues when growing up; peer pressure, bullying, love etc. This is sort of movie that I know means well and tries its best, but in the end it just feels like a pointless film. We've seen it all before and it never dares to really go into the depth regarding anything. At a couple of places it has the opportunity to actually explore some difficult issues, but every single time it backs away from it and goes back to just being cute. A shame. It could have been better.

We Are Skateboarders

We Are Skateboarders

Review: Love skateboarding? Then We Are Skateboarders might just be the documentary for you. It deals with the soul of skateboarding and it's straight down dirty. Perhaps not a classic well made piece of film, but it's all the better for it. Check it out!

Stephen Merchant: Hello Ladies...Live!

Stephen Merchant: Hello Ladies...Live!

Review: For some reason I missed out when this one dropped last year. It's Stephen Merchant's debut stand up show. For you few people who don't know who he is, just think of The Office, Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show, Life's Too Short etc. Yes, it's Ricky Gervais partner in crime. It's a bit surprising that this is his first show considering his resume, but you can also see that he's not that used to stand on stage. He seems quite akward at times, but he makes up for it with his material. Not an excellent show, but good enough to be entertained for a bit over an hour. The ending is superb.

形影不离 (Inseparable)

形影不离 (Inseparable)

Review: Seeing Kevin Spacey in a movie is always a pleasure, and the chance of seeing him together with Daniel Wu sounded really promising. Unfortunately Inseparable (or 形影不离 as the original title is) feels quite uninspired and lame, and the actors don't get the chance of using their skills. An OK movie for a lazy Thursday though.

Iron Sky

Iron Sky

Review: Sometimes you really do wonder where people get their ideas from. Iron Sky is an Finnish/German/Australian movie about Nazis that hid on the Moon after the war and will return to conquer the world. It's quite funny though in all it's nonsense and not as bad as I had expected. Space,Nazis and comedy is always a nice concept.
